Imagine that Many of the Female Characters of MakeBeliefsComix Were Elected to Congress. What Will They Accomplish?

Women gained significant political power in last November’s midterm election. There are currently 102 women serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, a record number. And now many are choosing to run for President in 2020.

MakeBeliefsComix offers many female characters. So why not consider choosing some of them for comic strips you create in which they talk about their goals and priorities for the nation. How do you think their presence will change things for the future? What would you want to say to them in terms of solving our nation’s problems, such as with the economy or environment? Do you think they will make a difference? What would you like to see them accomplish?

You can send your completed comics to us at [email protected] , along with your permission to use on our Showcase Gallery, or write a comment on this writing blog, Somethingtowriteabout.com.

Which Afro-Americans Are Your Heroes?

Which Afro-Americans Are Your Heroes?
This is Black History Month. How about creating some comic strips in which your characters talk about their heroes. Why do you feel this way and which characteristics of your heroes do you want to adopt for yourself? Your heroes can be political figures, civil rights activists, athletes, scientists, musicians and singers,or writers — anyone who helps make our lives better. What would you want to say to them if your could meet them?
Your can send your comic strips to [email protected] and give us permission to post on our Comics Showcase page. You can also answer this question by going to our writing blog, SomthingtoWriteabout.com.

How Will You Use Your One ‘Wild and Precious Life’?

In her beautiful poem, ”The Summer Day,” Mary Oliver ends the poem with a magnificent line. She asks, ”Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

Such an important question which each of us must deal with at some point in our lives. Life is so short but can be so full of wonderful things. How will you use your time on Earth? What do you want to accomplish, to explore? Select a character or two from MakeBeliefsComix.com to represent you and build a comic answering the question about what you want to do with your precious life. You are welcome to send your comic to us at [email protected] and give us permission to showcase it, or you can write your comment directly on our writing prompts blog, Somethingtowriteabout.com.

Create Comic Strips About Our Brilliant New Characters

In response to your email requests, MakeBeliefsComix introduces a new batch of characters and scenic backgrounds to enhance your comic stories. Also, you now will be able to create stories that are 18 panels long, twice as much as before. For this week why not create comix giving the back stories of some of the new characters. Who are they? Give each a name; give them personalities. As you fill in their talk and thought balloons tell us what is on the minds of the characters. Make believe you are one of them — what words would they say in speaking for you? Please give us feedback on the changes we have made.
You are welcome to send your completed comics to [email protected]; please include your name so that we can credit you if we want to display the comic with your permission. You can also post a written response to this idea prompt directly on this writing blog.
